By 1189 the Count of Champagne saw no advantage in marrying Erminsindis so he sent her back. At the age of three she was set up with Thibaut of Briey, younger son and brother of the Counts of Bar. Thibaut assigned to her as a dowrythe chatellenie of Briey and all its fiefs and he promised to add to it the castle of St. Mihiel when his brother the Count should die. It was in that year, 1189, that Thibault became Count and Erminsindis, though an infant, began the revivification of Luxemburg. By the age of ten her father had died and she became the third wife of the 38-year-old Thibaut. At the age of 14 she was considered to have attained her majority and signed her name as Countess of Bar and Luxemburg. Thibaut was described as "faithless, unscrupulous, and cruel." He died and within three months she married again, Valeran III (Walram) of Limburg. She lost some of her lands of her first husband but acquied some of hjer second. Under salic law she was not entitled to be called Countess in her own right but when Walran died in 1226 they had a son and heir. She served for regent for Henry until he became of age in 1234; however, Henry did not succeed but rther Erminsindis became officially Countess. She rebuilt Luxemburg, for without her the country would probably not exist today. She was a good administrator and "in the millenium of Luxembourg's history, Ermesinde's name will rank with the name of only one other great sovereign."
