  1. Title: Wikipedia (French): Eudes I de Blois
    Publication: Name: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eudes_Ier_de_Blois;
    Note: Eudes I of Blois ( born around 950 , died March 996), succeeded his father as Count of Blois , Count of Tours , Châteaudun , Chartres , Beauvais , Dreux and Provins . Lord of Chinon and Saumur , he was one of the most powerful lords of the time of Hugues Capet . Eudes I of Blois Biography Birth Worms 950 Death Between February 995 and July 995 Burial Abbey of Marmoutier March 12, 996 Family House of Blois Father Thibaud I of Blois Mother Liutgarde of Vermandois Siblings Emma of Blois Hugh of Blois Spouse Berthe de Bourgogne Children Eudes II of Blois Thibaut II of Blois Robert of Blois ( d )* Agnes of Blois ( d ) Thierry of Blois ( d ) Biography Eudes I OF Blois was the son of Thibaud I , known as “ the Tricheur ” and of Liutgarde de Vermandois , daughter of Herbert II de Vermandois . Around 978-980, he married Berthe de Bourgogne , daughter of Conrad III called the Pacific , king of Burgundy . Following the conflict between his father and the Archbishop of Reims over the castle of Coucy , he received this castle in 965 but " in precarious " from the archbishop. In the 970s, in the conflicts for the Duchy of Brittany , he supported the count of Rennes, Conan , strengthening the influence of his family in this territory. He receives from the Carolingian king Lothair the title of count palatine which will remain in his family. It does not take long, with his Herbertian cousins , to become loyal to the Carolingians against the Robertians . In 988, he assisted Charles of Lorraine in his capture of Laon , which had belonged to his father Thibaud le Tricheur. In 991, he abandoned the party of Lorrain against the town of Dreux . But in mid-991, while attempting to seize Melun , which belonged to Bouchard the Venerable , the faithful among the faithful of Hugues Capet , he then saw an alliance rising against him comprising Hugues Capet , Richard I of Normandy and the Count of Anjou, Foulque III Nerra , Bouchard's son-in-law. He received from Hugues Capet the title of lay abbot of Saint-Martin de Tours and Marmoutier which became the dynastic necropolis of the counts of Blois. However, in the spring of 993 , Count Eudes I OF Blois , disappointed that Hugh Capet and his son had refused to confer on him the title of Duke of the Franks , imagined, in conjunction with Adalberon of Laon , having them captured during a projected meeting in Metz with Emperor Otto III and to place Louis , son of the DukeCharles of Lower Lotharingia , on the throne . Eudes I OF Blois would have become Duke of the Franks and Adalberon Bishop of Reims. Hugues Capet and his accused son thwarted this attempt. Around 995, he went to war against the Count of Anjou , Foulque III Nerra , already in conflict on his Chartres border with Conan I of Brittany . Eudes I manages to create an alliance which brings together his brother-in-law, the Duke of Aquitaine , Guillaume IV Fièrebrace , the Count of Flanders Baudouin IV the Bearded , and even his former enemy, the Duke of Normandy , Richard I. During the winter of 995-996, they laid siege to the castle of Langeais where Foulque III took refuge , but the arrival of King Hugues Capet to the aid of the Angevin, put an end to their enterprise. Ill shortly after, Eudes I of Blois returned to the abbey of Marmoutier in Tours where he died on Thursday, March 12, 996. His widow, Berthe de Bourgogne , remarried the King of France, Robert , the son of Hugues Capet whose death the 24 October 996 allowed this marriage to which he was fiercely opposed. Family and descendants In 978-980, he married Berthe de Bourgogne who gave him : Thibaut II of Blois (†1004); Eudes II of Blois , Count of Blois-Champagne (†1037); Agnès who married Geoffroy II , Viscount of Thouars . *On the other hand, it is now obsolete to say that Eudes I of Blois was the father of Roger I of Blois, bishop of Beauvais , and Héloïse de Pithiviers . The first author to show the inconsistencies was Charles Delettre , confirmed by various other publications .
