  2-Ramón Menéndez Pidal (La España del Cid, II, pp. 722-723) sugería que la madre de Jimena Díaz (Esposa de Rodrigo Díaz el Campeador), era de sangre real y que quizás la esposa de Fernando Gundemáriz, quien sería el abuelo materno de Jimena Díaz, fuera Jimena Alfonso, hija del rey Alfonso V de León. Esto se debe a que Jimena Alfonso aparece confirmando la donación de Muniadona y su hijo Fernando Gundemáriz en 1036 a su media hermana, la monja Gontrodo Gundemáriz, aunque en el documento no se especifica si había alguna relación familiar entre la infanta y Fernando.​
