=== Life Sketch ===
Menumorut, also Menumorout (Bulgarian: Меноморут; Hungarian: Ménmarót; Romanian: Menumorut) was the ruler of the lands bordered by the rivers Mureș, Someș and Tisza at the time of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries, according to the Gesta Hungarorum, a Hungarian chronicle written after 1150. Historians debate whether Menumorut was a real historical person or only one of the "imaginary figures"[1] invented by the anonymus author of the Gesta. The Gesta writes that Menumorut's duchy was inhabited by Khazars and Székelys and he accepted the suzerainty of an unnamed Byzantine Emperor. According to the Anonymus, Menumorut agreed to give his daughter in marriage to Zoltán—the son of the supreme head of the Magyars, Árpád—after the Magyars seized his fortress at Biharia; his son-in-law succeeded him around 906. In modern Romanian historiography, Menumorut is described as a Romanian ruler fighting against the conquering Magyars in a land which is now part of Romania.
