=== Life Sketch ===
Alberic or Aubry I st of Macon ( 885 - 943 ), also called Aubry Narbonne, was Viscount of Narbonne (before 911-918), Viscount and Earl of Macon ( 915 - 943 ) and Lord of Salins (942-943).
Biography
Aubry was born around 885. He is the youngest son of the Vicomte de Narbonne Mayeul and his wife Raimonde. His family belongs to the entourage of the powerful family of the Guilhelmids , and in particular of William the Pious , Duke of Aquitaine and Marquis of Gothia and more particularly Count of Auvergne, Mâcon , Bourges and Lyon. This may be the beginning of the x th century Aubry Attellane wife, the daughter of Viscount of Macon, Racon (or Raculfe), which also belongs to the entourage of William the Pious.
Aubry became viscount of Narbonne before 911 - the date of his father's death is not known. On the death of his father-in-law, Racon, in 915, he also became viscount of Mâcon, undoubtedly with the consent of Guillaume le Pieux. However, he had to abandon Narbonne in 918, on the death of William the Pious, while the Marquisate of Gothia, to which the viscount was, was ceded to Eudes, the Count of Toulouse from the Raimondins lineage.
In 927, on the death of Acfred, nephew and successor of William the Pious, a real "war of succession" broke out for the Duchy of Aquitaine which opposed for twenty years the Ramnulfides, counts of Poitiers and the Raimondins, counts of Toulouse . In 932, Aubry took the opportunity to seize the count's title.
It also appropriates Salins which came under the territorial abbey of Saint-Maurice d'Agaune and therefore was far too far from the seat of this abbey to be effectively protected. By this subjugation, the abbey made sure of a powerful lord to look after its interests. Bernon, bishop of Mâcon and descendant of this house, granted to Alberic the castle of Confrançon , the village and the church of Saint-Amour and the provost of Vinzelles. Alberic for his part cedes to him the place of Montgudin, the city of Civria and that of Savigny. In 941, Maynier, provostof the abbey of Saint-Maurice d'Agaune, gives to Alberic the lands that the monastery owns in the counties of Scoding and Warasch, namely Aresches , Chamblay, Usie, the castle of Bracon and part of the Saltworks. This donation, approved by the King of Burgundy, Conrad III, is made on the condition of returning them after the death of Aubry and his sons if the abbey requests them.
He died in 943 and is buried under the forecourt of the Saint-Étienne church in Besançon.
Marriage and descent
Aubry marries Attellane (or Atallana or Attala or Adela or Tolana de Mâcon), only daughter of Raculfe (or Ranoux or Racon), viscount of Mâcon.
From this marriage came:
1.) Humbert (905-957 / 58): lord of Salins de (943-957 / 58);
2.) Liétald (915-965): Count of Macon (943-965) and Count Besançon (952-965)
