  Thibaud dit l'Ancien (né en 890 - mort en 943), vicomte de Blois en 906, vicomte de Tours en 908, puis comte de Tours et comte de Blois vers 940.
  
  Arrivé sur les bords de la Loire inférieure au début du Xe siècle, il serait de haute extraction franco-bourguignonne, apparentée au bosonide Hugues d'Arles, devenu roi d'Italie, et au père de celui-ci Thibaud d'Arles. Il est le fondateur de la dynastie des Thibaldiens.
  
  Il épousa Richilde de Bourges, connue aussi sous le nom de Richilde du Maine ((v.890-† ap.942), fille de Roger du Maine et de Rothilde (v.871-v.928), fille de Charles le Chauve et de Richilde d'Ardennes).

  Thibaud dit l'Ancien (born in 890 - died in 943), Viscount of Blois in 906, Viscount of Tours in 908, then Count of Tours and Count of Blois around 940.
  
  Arrived on the banks of the lower Loire at the beginning of the 10th century, he would be of high Franco-Burgundian extraction, related to the bosonide Hugues d'Arles, who became king of Italy, and to his father Thibaud d'Arles. He is the founder of the Thibaldian dynasty.

  === Confusion in many historical records concerning Thibaud l'Ancien and Thibaut le Tricheur ===
  It appears that many older records confuse the two individuals named Thibaut l'Ancien (Thibaut the Old) and Thibaut le Tricheur (Thibaut the Cheat or Thibaut the Trickster) [See documents in the Memories section]. It appears, from careful reading of the oldest records and comparing reported dates of birth, they are actually father and son, but many records seem to have combined them into one person. Thibaut l'Ancien is reportedly married to Richilde de Bourges and Thibaut le Tricheur is married to Liutgarde de Vermandois. A number of records call the son both Thibaut l'Ancien and Thibaut le Tricheur, but from dates and marriages they cannot be the same person. The most likely explanation for the ancestry of Thibaut le Tricheur is that he is the son of Thibaut l'Anicen and Richlide de Bourges. There appears to be no disagreement in the records that Thibaut le Tricheur was married to Liutgarde de Vermandois.
