  Rainer or Reginar V succeeded his father and died 1036. H e took the part of his uncle Lambert, Count of Lorraine, i n the quarrel between the latter and Godfrey, Duke of Lotha ir. They were defeated in the battle of Florences Sept. 12 , 1015, but Rainer later became reconciled with Godfrey thr ough the mediation of the Bishops of Verdun and Cambrai. H e married Mathilde, daughter of Herman, Viscount of Verdun , and had an only child, a daughter, Richilde, Countess o f Hainault, who succeeded her father in 1036.
