  El patronímico de la condesa Urraca no ha sido consignado en ninguna crónica ni documento, en la documentación siempre que aparece junto con su marido Sancho García solo consta su nombre sin acompañamiento de patronímico, un ejemplo: Ego, igitur, Sancius comes, cum coniuge mea cometissa Urraca.4​ El historiador benedictino Fray Justo Pérez de Urbel asignaba el patrónimico Salvadores5​ a Urraca haciéndola miembro del linaje Salvadórez de gran influencia en el siglo XI pero inexistente en el siglo X.6​ Pérez de Urbel tomó como referencia un pasaje de la obra Antigüedades de España de Francisco de Berganza que emparentaba a Sancho García con una tal Urraca Salvadórez hija de Salvador Álvarez.
  
  Más recientemente Jaime de Salazar y Acha propuso secuencialmente dos orígenes diferentes para Urraca. La primera sugirió que quizás era hija de Sancho II, rey de Navarra y de Urraca Fernández de Castilla. Posteriormente abandonó esta hipótesis y en su lugar enbasándose en los usos onomásticos de la época presentaba a la esposa de Sancho García como Urraca Gómez de la familia Banu Gómez.3​ Esta hipótesis es seguida por otros investigadores como Gonzalo Martínez Díez o Margarita Torres.
  
  The patronymic of Countess Urraca has not been recorded in any chronicle or document; in the documentation whenever she appears together with her husband Sancho García, her name only appears without any patronymic, for example: Ego, igitur, Sancius comes, cum coniuge mea cometissa Urraca. The Benedictine historian Father Justo Pérez de Urbel assigned the patron saint Salvadores to Urraca, making her a member of the Salvadórez lineage of great influence in the 11th century but nonexistent in the 10th century. Pérez de Urbel took as a reference a passage from the work Antiquities of Spain by Francisco de Berganza that related Sancho García with a certain Urraca Salvadórez daughter of Salvador Álvarez.
  
  More recently Jaime de Salazar y Acha sequentially proposed two different origins for Urraca. The first suggested that she was perhaps the daughter of Sancho II, King of Navarra and Urraca Fernández de Castilla. Later he abandoned this hypothesis and instead, based on the onomastic customs of the time, he presented Sancho García's wife as Urraca Gómez of the Banu Gómez family. This hypothesis is followed by other researchers such as Gonzalo Martínez Díez or Margarita Torres.

  No surviving record gives the parentage of countess Urraca, nor has her patronymic been found in any document. However, she gave a daughter the name Tigridia, which while not previously found in her husband's line was a name of the wife of the Banu Gomez family founder, and was used repeatedly among her descendants. This, along with the fact that the name Urraca seems to have been introduced into Castile by way of the marriage of count Fernan Gonzalez to Sancha Sanchez of Pamplona, who had a sister with that name, gave rise to the hypothesis that countess Urraca was daughter of count Gomez Diaz of the Banu Gomez by his wife Muniadomna Fernandez, daughter of Fernan Gonzalez, which would make her name Urraca Gomez (i.e. Urraca daughter of Gomez).
  
  This assignment of her probable parentage replaced several previous hypotheses that gave her different ancestry, and hence different patronymics, including Urraca Perez, Urraca Salvadorez and Urraca Sanchez.
