  === Life Sketch ===
  Pippin of Champagne was the youngest son of Drogo of Champagne and his wife Anstrude of Neustria and Burgundy. He was born in Champagne about 708. He had three older brothers : Arnulf, Duke of Champagne, Hugh Archbishop of Rouen, and Gotfrid of Champagne. He was also the grandson of Pepin of Herstal.
  
  In 723 it is recorded that at the command of Pippin's paternal uncle Charles Martel "two sons of Drogo were bound, Arnold [Arnulf] and another who died", either Gotfrid or Pippin. (Recorded in the Annales Nazariani, the Annales Petaviani, Annales Laureshamenses and Annales Alamannici.) As most records give Gotfrid's year of death as 735, it appears that it was Pippin who died at the hands of his uncle.
