=== Life Sketch ===
Aribert I (circa 640 – 724) was the king of the Slavic tribe of the Obodrites. Son of Vislav and Adolla. Father of Aribert II.
Biography:
Aribert I was the son of Vislav, after whose death he ascended the throne. So he reigned from 700 to 724. After his death his son, Aribert II, reigned.
The name Oritbert, as suggested by Friedrich Chemnitz, is of Lombard origin. This is quite likely, since Aribert I's mother in historical sources is called the daughter of the king of the Lombards, whose name is unknown.
It is noted that at the time of the marriage in 1716 of the Duke of Mecklenburg, Charles Leopold, and the Russian princess Catherine, the vice rector of the gymnasium, Friedrich Thomas, compiled the so-called "Genealogies of Mecklenburg", in which one can trace back to Aribert I through the dynasties of both.
