  Catherine Sowers (Cadrina Sauer) was born in Lexington, North Carolina, March 7, 1815, the tenth child of Valentine Sowers, Sr. and his wife, Anna Maria (Darr) Sowers. She married first to Solomon Myers, and had three sons, before his death in June of 1838. Mrs. Catherine Myers married December 11, 1838 to David Shoaf, Sr. at the home of Mathias Sowers, her brother, in Fountain County, Indiana. Catherine and David Shoaf had 9 children, before they moved to Vermillion County, Illinois. Catherine died March 04, 1887 at the age of 72 years; and was buried at Embury Cemetery, south and west of Collison, Vermillion County, Illinois.
