  Solomon Saul Shoaf was born in Parke County, Indiana. He married to Margaret Sowers in 1853 at Fountain County,Indiana. Margaret was the daughter of Mathias Sowers and Susannah A. Long, and a sister of Mary Ann Sowers, wife of Solomon's brother, David. Solomon moved to Franklin County, Kansas in about 1857. Solomon and Margaret were both buriedat Highland Union Cemetery, north of Centropolis, in Douglas County, Kansas; although a search of the cemetery in 1979 found no stone for Solomon and the following for Margaret Shoaf: b. 1834 and died 1887. Solomon was a farmer.
