=== Life Sketch ===
A soldier himself, he gave birth to Probus who became Marcus Aurelius Probus Augustus, Emperor of Rome.
He supposedly married above his social station though the sources on Dalmatius are scant.
One source says he was fond of fields, implying he was a farmer. Others that he was a military tribune. He could have been both.

=== Probably not Emperor Probus' Father ===
The only source that says Emperor Probus' father was named Maximus is Historia Augusta which is notoriously unreliable and verifiably incorrect in some cases. Other sources that say this are derivatives of Historia Augusta.
Since more sources say that his father's name was Dalmatius including Sextus Aurelius Victor who is attributed with writing Epitome de Caesaribus in the 4th century, that seems much more likely to be correct.
I won't delete it yet because we don't know until we can confirm better details about Probus' family.

Note: This is a translation of Epitome de Caesaribus which was published by European translators and researchers in the 1500s who attribute the record to Sextus Aurelius Victor -- aka Aurelius Victor. A Roman historian and politician.

The record cites Emperor Probus' father was Dalmatius. This is also seen in other historian's records though it is possible they all cite this same original source.
Page: Because this source is one of the best available regarding Probus' father. It is one of the older records that most historians cite to when discussing Emperor Probus' father. There are other histories that cite Dalmatius was his father and that he was a middle class birth and was also a soldier of the legions. There is a rumor that he (Dalmatius) married up in terms of political status.
