  Tegid ap Iago was born in 240, the son of Iago ap Gwyndog. He became the first ruler of Deira in 270 as High Chief of Gododdin, and he adopted the Romano-British culture, converting to Christianity and becoming known to the Romans as "Tacitus". He died in 300, and he was succeeded by his son Padarn Beisrudd.
