=== Life Sketch ===
Little is known about Beatrice other than that she was French. She first appears in contemporary charters as wife of Alfonso VI and queen the year before his death, and the only Iberian chronicle to describe her simply says that she went back to France after his death.
Orderic Vitalis would report that Helias of Maine married the widow of Alfonso VI, whom he names as Agnes, daughter of William of Poitou. However, this was Alfonso's long-dead first wife, so Orderic seems to have been confused between the wives. Chronology is consistent with it being Alfonso's true widow, Beatrice, and not Agnes of Poitou, who married Helias. Some historians have speculated that Orderic simply got the name wrong, and that Beatrice too was daughter of a William of Poitou, a niece of Agnes. However, it is more likely that Orderic was mistaken about the identity as a whole - he knew that Alfonso had married Agnes, daughter of William, and confusedly thought this was the same woman who as Alfonso's widow married Helias, and thus he was giving the correct parentage of the wrong wife, rather than just getting the name wrong.
She likely survived Helias, who died the year after their marriage, but her subsequent fate is unknown.
