=== Life Sketch ===
Emma of France (943 – 19 March 968) married to Richard I, Duke of Normandy. She was the daughter of Count Hugh the Great of Paris and Hedwiga de Sachsen and sister of Hugh Capet, king of France.
Emma was betrothed to Richard I in her childhood as a part of an alliance between Normandy and Paris against the French royal house. The marriage took place in 960. The union gave a permanent and useful status to Normandy, especially since the brother of Emma became king in 987. Emma has been pointed out as the mother of Emma of Normandy, but this is not chronologically possible. Emma died childless.

- Title: Foundation for Medieval Genealogy: EMMA ([943]-after 18 Mar 968)
Publication: Name: http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/CAPET.htm#Emmadied968;
Note: EMMA ([943]-after 18 Mar 968). The "Liber Modernorum Regum Francorum" records the marriage in 956 of "Richardus filius Guillelmi principis Normannorum" with "filiam Hugonis ducis," although she is not named. Guillaume of Jumièges records the betrothal of "Hugo dux...filiam suam...Emmam" and "puerum Richardum," with the consent of "Bernardi Silvanectensis," and in a later passage their marriage. No direct proof has yet been found that Emma was the daughter of her father's third marriage. However, this is likely given that betrothals at the time normally took place when the female partner was still a child or in early adolescence. Guillaume of Jumièges records the death without children of "Emma uxor eius filia Hugonis Magni. m (Betrothed 956, Rouen 960) as his first wife, RICHARD I "Sans Peur" Comte [de Normandie], GUILLAUME "Longuespée" Comte [de Normandie] & his first wife Sprota --- (Fécamp [932]-Fécamp 20 Nov 996, bur Fécamp). Regent of France 956-960.
