Esperling of Vaudreuil was a wealthy landowner who operated mills at Pîtres, France. After William Longsword died in 942, Esperling 'rescued' William's common law wife, Sprota, and married her himself.
Together Esperling and Sprota had a son, Rodulf of Ivry, and several daughters.
