=== Life Sketch ===
Geni -Justin Swanström's take-
In 486 (or 493?) Gundobad assassinated Chilperic and drowned his wife, then exiled Chilperic's two daughters, Chroma, who became a nun, and Clotilda, who fled to her uncle, Godegisel.
There is some confusion around the names and ancestries of Chilperic's two wives. His first wife is said to have been Caratene, daughter of Gundicar and mother of St. Clothilda. His second is said to be a sister of Ricimer, not a daughter. Clothilda was the younger of the two daughters, so they must both have been children of Chilperic's first wife Caratene.
FMG says: The name of Chilperich´s wife is not known. Gregory of Tours records that Chilperich's wife was drowned by her brother-in-law King Gundobad, after he tied a stone around her neck. The Liber Historiæ Francorum records the same event.
Note from Justin Swanström: I wonder whether the idea that Chilperic's second wife (Agrippina?) was a sister of Ricimir might be a jumble resulting from the secondary sources that say (a) Ricimir was a son of Rechila of the Suevi, (b) Rechila had a daughter Cartamena, and (c) Cartamena married Gunderic of Burgundy. A healthy dose of skepticism seems to be required here....

AUTH Arnaud Bunel
PUBL Coats of Arms for European Royalty and Nobility (http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org, Arnaud Bunel, 1998) , Internet
"Armigerous" (ahr-MIJ-ehr-us) adjective
Bearing or entitled to bear heraldic arms.
The reason the notion of a family crest was brought into the language was that those who were armigerous (entitled to bear arms) used to put their crest or achievement (the full coat of arms) on
their carriage, silver, etc. The stationers thought this an excellent way to sell more stationary and, in Victorian times, encouraged everybody, whether armigerous or not, to buy stationary with
their "family crest" on it. There was no such thing of course and they used to sell it (and some still do) on the basis that "someone in your family or someone having the same surname as you was
once granted this crest - as part of their achievement. Thereby they sold more stationery. And engravers flourished. The Heralds, meanwhile, lost a bit of business as their services (awarding
coats with variations because no two people can have the same coat) were less sought after.
The Shields used are family Logos, each individual with armigerous rights had individual full coats of arms to reflect their personal achievements.

Note: Suebi, also spelled Suevi, group of Germanic peoples, including the Marcomanni and Quadi, Hermunduri, Semnones, and Langobardi (Lombards). The Alemanni were also part of the Suebi tribal group, which gave its name to the German principality of Swabia.
In the late 1st century AD most of the Suebi lived around the Elbe River. Dislodged by the Huns, some Suebi crossed the Rhine River and in 409 entered Spain, settling mainly in the northwest (Gallaecia). By 447, under their king Rechila, the Suebi had spread over the Roman provinces of Lusitania and Baetica. Although the Suebi entered Spain as pagans, their king Rechiar came to the throne as a Christian in 448. He was later defeated by the Visigoths under Theodoric II in 456. Remnants of the Suebi survived under Maldras (reigned 456–460) and rival kings until about 585, when the kingdom was annexed to the Visigothic state.

Publication: Name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caretene;
Note: Caretene (born c. 456 — died September 16, 506) was the wife of Gundobad, king of the Burgundians. Unlike her husband, who was an Arian, Caretene was a Catholic. She was probably the mother of Sigismund of Burgundy.
Google Translation of Epitaph:
The prop of the scepter, the glory of the earth, and the radiance of the world
Caretena wants the frame to be covered with this mound;
By which you, Christ, your servant, and powerful and powerful,
You call out to your kingdoms
Treasure may cause a happy ending
Fotis to the poor, whom she gave to God.
Some time ago he chastised the chaste for his harsh body;
The purple robe hid beneath the glowing red.
He hid his sober countenance with joyful fasting;
Secretly, he gave the royal members to the cross
She shares the care of her husband with the Most High Princess;
He managed the rooftop design with an adjunct.
The offspring of a goodly, sweet, joyful grandson;
To solicit the true faith of learned men.
He possesses the talents to submit to the sublime mind;
He did not despise the sacred yoke after the crown.
Yields of fragrant odors were once dominated by the Sabeans;
Solomon's work was astonishing.
He built this temple which is present throughout the world;
He gave high thresholds to angels and choirs.
To loose the criminals, whom he often bore to the king,
He can offer these prayers to you, Christ now.
When ten years after, envious death snatched the lustrum
It got better then endless days.
And now he was moving twice in the eighth day of September,
The name of Messala was the consul's year.[1]

Note: There is some confusion around the names and ancestries of Chilperic's two wives.
FMG: An epitaph to "Caretenes religiosiæ reginæ", referring to her burial "Lugduni in basilica sancti Michahelis", is included in the compilation of the works of Avitus Bishop of Vienne [Alcimi Ecdicii Aviti Viennensis episcopi Opera quæ superunt, MGH Auct ant VI.2, Epitaphium VI, p. 185.]. It is not clear from the edition consulted whether this epitaph was the bishop's own composition: clearly not all the epitaphs included could have been written by him as some relate to individuals whose deaths are recorded elsewhere in the second half of the 6th century. If the epitaph is contemporary with Bishop Avitus, then it presumably refers to the wife of King Gondebaud, to whom Avitus wrote many times, although this is not specified in the text. It can safely be assumed that she was Catholic. The text does not reveal any indication of the date of her death, although "506" is added in the margin of the edition without any indication of the basis.
A healthy dose of skepticism seems to be required here.
