- Birth: 22 APR 1810 in Rockcastle Co., Kentucky

- Notes:
James, son of Conrad and Margaret Hairston Overleese St., was born in ??? Rockcastle Co., Kentucky on April 22, 1810
Around the year 1815 he moved with his family to Madison Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio. At this time nothing is known of his childhood, but it was more than likely the usual for that period as a younger member of a yard working pioneering -- farming family.
It would seem that in the late 1820's when his father moved to Rush Co., Indiana James moved into the househould of his brother Henry; where he undoubtedly took on his part of the farming. It was in this household that he is found in the 1830 Federal Census. However, by November of that year he had either gone out to Cass Co., Indiana, or had on e of his family put in for a grant of land for him there, as he wasgranted eighty acres of land there at that time.
If he did go in person to Cass Co., Indiana he had returned to Montgomery Co., Ohio by June 16, 1831 on which date he took as his bride Charlottle Leonard, daughter of ??? and Mary Leonard. It is not known just where in the county the wedding took place, nor by whom the servicewas conducted. Charlotte was born on Oct. ???, 1813 in ??? NC. Her brother Keeling Leonard, stood for her at her marriage.
Sometime in the 1830's James and his young family moved due North to Williams Co., Ohio to Center Twp. With them in this move were his wife's mother, and brothers and sisters.
Again in the early 1840's he and his family were on the move, this time to Baugo Twp., Elkhart Co., Indiana, where he remained for a numberof years before moving to Pen Twp., in the adjoining county of St. Joseph, where he is found in 1870. By this we can assume that this lastmove was made in the 1860's His entire life would seem to have been spent working as a farmer.
He made his will on November 29, 1869, which in turn was registered on June 13, 1872. In his will he left his entire estate to h is "beloved wife". He mentions his sons; James, George and Leonard, but makesno mention of Henry and Elijah (his oldest and youngest sons), he also mentions his daughters, but not by name.
James dies on May 3, 1872 and was buried in the old Baptist cemetery in Baugo Twp., near Jimtown. The cemetery is known as the Noffsinger Cemtery. His tombstone was still standing in the fall of 1972. His widow is also buried in that cemetery.
