- Birth: ABT 1835 in Madison Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio
- Notes:
Henry, son of James and Charlotte Leonard Overleese, Sr. was born in Madison Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio on ??? 1835.
In the late 1830's Henry was taken by his parents to reside in CenterTwp., WIlliams County, Ohio, from whence they moved to Baugo Twp., Elkhart Co., Indiana between 1856 and 1849.
Like most young boys and men in a farm community he was working on his father's farm b the time he was 16 years of age.
On July 28, 1853 he took as his first wife, his neighbor, Sarah Jane, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Seiler) Noffsinger; this marriage more than likely took place in Baugo Twp., Elkhart Co., Indiana, as both the bride and groom resided there. Sarah Jane, also known as SallyJane, was born on April 15, 1838, probably in Baugo Twp., and died in, or near, Riverton, Franklin Co., Nebraska. She was buried in the Riverton Cemetery, where her grave is marked by a fairly large monument. Sarha died on July 25, 1888.
There is a family tradition that Henry was a wheelwright, however in the various census records he is called a farmer, and is sometimes listed as working for the railroad.
On reading the will of his father one cannot help but wonder why he was not included, but then neither was the yongest son, Elijah.
There is a great deal of mystery around Henry as after many years of married and farming he separated from Sarah, and after her death he married a widow, Mrs. ??? Klinger (nee Mary E. ???, with whom he had been living for at least the past nine years as husband and wife. This marriage was performed by E.G. Chamberlain, J.P. on Aug 13, 1889 in Elkhart Co., Indiana. Mary was born on ??? 1848 in ??? Co., Ohio and died on ??? in ???
Little, or nothing, is known of his last years other than the fact that at the time of his death he was a widower and was living at 726 Blaine Ave., Elkhart, Elkhart Co., Indiana. He died of cerebral apoplexy. He was buried in the Baptist Cemetery in Baugo Twp., near Jimtown,Indiana. The cemetery is called the Noffsinger Cemetery. In the fall of 1972 his tombstone was still standing. He died on Oct. 31, 1911.
It is pure speculation, but it may have been Henry's laison with the widow Klinger that motivated his two children to move to Nebraska, taking their mother with them.
Henry and Sarah received their license to be married on July 21, 1853at the hands of Owen Coffin, County Clerk; and in turn were married by Eli S. Robinson.
Sometime between their marriage and in 1860, Henry and Sarah moved toMadison Twp., St. Joseph Co., Indiana.
Other source - After the death of his wife Sarah, in Riverton, NEB. Henry returned to South Bend or Elkhart Ind. He married again, other sons and daughters unknown.
