Konrad Overleese
AKA Conrad
It is our belief that Konrad Overleese came to America as one of the thousands of Hessian soldiers in the pay of the British to fight the colonist in the Revolution: this of course would be in the mid 1770's.Like many of his countrymen he decided to stay in America after the war and settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. His grandson, John Foglesong, stated that Konrad had served in the Revolution, however, to date no record of his patriot service has come to light.
By the year 1786 we find him residing in Franklin Co., Virginia.
Around 1804/1805 he and his young family migrated to "the woods and barrens" of ???, Rockcastle Co., Ky.
For reasons not known to us today, around 1815, the Overlease's once again picked up and moved, this time to Madison Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio in the vicinity of Dayton, where Conrad continued to farm. Dayton was becoming a busy shipping port on the Miami River; the local people had even introduced keel boats to the river as early as 1819 alongwith the usual flat boats to carry their produce to Cincinnati and beyond.
Once again, either in the very late 1820's or very early 1930's. Conrad picked up stakes and moved to Rush Co., Indiana. Some of his older children and their growing families moved westward with him; however, his younger children seemed to have chosen to stay in Madison Twp. with their married brother, Henry, and his young family.
Konrad died in, or near, Milroy, Rush Co., Indiana on July 20, 1824 and was buried in the Overleese Cemetery in Milroy, where his tombstonestill stands.
He married Margaret (alias Peggy), daughter of ??? and ??? Hairston on Nov. 7, 1788 in Franklin Co., Virginia, Margaret was born before ???, 1766 in ??? and died on ??? in ???

Additional data on Konrad,
We know that Konrad was born abroad, as his son, James states that his father was a foreign born in the 1870 Census. The country, Germany, is chosen as the name is German without a doubt.

Who were Jacob Cool Sr.'s parents?
No one seems to know. The only possibility I have seen so far is based on an entry dated February 6, 1792 in the Franklin Co., VA courthouse records:
"Ordered that the overseer of the poor do bind Jacob Coole, orphan ofJohn Coole, to Michael Shepherd."
"Ordered that the overseer of the poor bind George Coole, orphan of John Coole, to Conrad Overlees."
This information was gathered by a researcher, Gertrude C. Mann, in 1980 at the behest of Mrs. Elva (Cool) Nally of WV, a descendant of Walter Grier Cool (abt 1802 - abt 1865). Ms. Mann indicated that both Shepherd and Overlees were German, but her letter does not say how she knew this. She also says that Shepherd went to Giles Co., VA, which was not formed until 1806.
If this orphan Jacob Coole is our ancestor, he would have been about 17 y.o. in 1792.
It is also suggestive that Jacob Cool Sr. married Jane Welch, whose father owned a lot in Abingdon, Washington Co. VA, not far from Franklin Co. where Jacob and George Coole were orphaned.
