=== Life Sketch ===
Enguerrand II of Coucy dit de La Fere or Marle, lord of Coucy, Marle, La Fere, Crécy (sur-Serre), Vervins, Pinon, Landouzy (la-Ville), Fontaine (les- Vervins), and some other places.
Unlike his father, the lord-robber Thomas de Marle, Enguerrand II manages his estate peacefully and is particularly concerned with governing his land, giving his castle a chapel whose substructures are nowadays the oldest vestiges of Coucy.
In 1131 , he married Agnes of Beaugency, cousin of King Louis VII of France and daughter of Raoul I st Beaugency and Mahaut or Matilda of Vermandois, herself the daughter of Hugues I st of Vermandois , brother of King Philip I st of France . Agnes gives him two son Raoul I st of Coucy and Enguerrand.
He spends most of his free time hunting in the woods, where legend has it that he killed a ferocious beast (a lion, according to some sources) who terrorized the country.
Having crossed his brother-in-law, Erard III de Breteuil , during the Second Crusade ( 1147-1149 ), to accompany King Louis the Younger and Emperor Conrad III , they both died around the year 1147 .
