John de Beauchamp, Knt., son and heir of Sir John de Beauchamp by his wife Cecily de Vivonne, was born 25 July 1274. He came of age in 1295 and had seizin of his father's lands on 17 September 1295.
Sir John was continually employed in the Scottish wars and was summoned to attend the king in Salisbury on 26 January 1296/7. He fought at the Battle of Falkirk on 22 July 1298, and was present at the siege of Caerlaverock Castle in 1300. He was summoned to Parliament by writs dated 1299-1336 directed to Johanni de Bello Campo de Somerset, during this time he became Lord Beauchamp. He was knighted with the Prince of Wales on 22 May 1306.
In 1321, he succeeded to the vast estates of his mother. On 20 August 1321 he was pardoned for all felonies committed while in pursuit of the Despensers.
John held lands in Hatch Beauchamp, Compton Dundon, and Stoke-under-Hamdon, Somerset and Beauchamps, Surrey, etc. He was Governor of Bridgewater Castle in 1325.

Sir John de Beauchamp died 1 January 1336/7, his wife, Joan, having predeceased him on 9 February 1327. John's only surviving son, John, was his heir.

Note: John Beauchamp, 1st Lord Beauchamp (of Somerset) was born on 25 July 1274. He was the son of John Beauchamp and Cicely de Vivonne. He married Joan Chenduit before 1301. He died between October 1336 and December 1336.1
He fought in the Scottish wars. On 17 September 1295 he had seizin of his father's lands. He was created 1st Lord Beauchamp, of Somerset [England by writ] on 29 December 1299. He was appointed Knight on 22 May 1306.1 In 1321 he suceeded to the extensive estates of his mother, including Sturminster Marshal, Dorset and Bullingham, Cambridgeshire. He held the office of Governor of Sturminster Castle in 1325.
Note that the House of Lords, Committee for Privileges found in 1924 that there was no proof that neither John Beauchamp nor his son had actually sat in Parliament following their writ of summons.
