=== HENRY DE TREGOZ, presumably son and heir ===
HENRY DE TREGOZ, presumably son and heir [of Henry, b. bef. 1181], had respite of knighthood for 3 years, 11 July 1256. In 1257 he was granted rights of free warren on his lands in Goring, Dedisham and Warbinton, Sussex, also a yearly fair at Goring. He was one of those appointed, 16 September 1264, to defend the Sussex coast. In 1269 he was in debt to Wibert de Kancia, to whom he pledged his lands in Kent and Sussex, and in 1270 he was a surety in the courts for Philip de Fluri and Richard de Ferringes. He was engaged in lawsuits in 1269 for the manor of Preston, Sussex; obtained a lease in the manor of Storrington, Sussex, in 1276; and was returned as holding 2 fees in Goring and Preston of Robert de Mohaut, 1284-85. He died before 1293. [Complete Peerage XII/2:24, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

=== Henry married Margaret, daughter and he ===
Henry married Margaret, daughter and heiress of his neighbor, John de Goring of County Sussex, through which match some represent the family as acquiring the Gording lordship, but it has been shown that the Tregoze family had owned property there nearly a century before. Sir Henry in importance almost exceeded his great deceased kinsman, John, Baron Tregoze, for during the reigns of Edward I and Edward II, 1294 and 1322, Sir Henry, having acquired much renown in the Scottish wars, was summoned to Parliament as a Baron. In 1307/8 he was a Conservator of Peace in Surrey, and in 1308 he was summoned to attend King Edward II's coronation. In 1309 and 1313 he was summoned to Parliament as Knight of the Shire of Sussex, as well as by special writ. By Margaret Goring he had Sir Thomas, his heir, Henry, who died sine prole, and Isabella, who married John Boome.

BARONY OF TREGOZ [OF GORING] (I)
HENRY DE TREGOZ, probably son and heir [of Henry de Tregoz], was summoned to attend the King and for service in Gascony, June 1294, for foreign service, May 1297, and to a military council at Rochester, August following. Sir Henry Tregoze had succeeded his parents and ancestors in their Sussex estates, before he became head of his family; and about 1271 he sold his manor at Denne or Warnham, co. Sussex to Rosa de Oyly of Raunton, in Staffordshire. In 3rd Edw. I. it was found that Henry Tregoze claimed wrecks in Palynge hundred, and assize of bread and ale in the vill of Goring; and, moreover, that he had appropriated to himself free warren there.
This Sir Henry Tregoze married Margaret, daughter and heiress of his neighbour, John de Goring, of co. Sussex; through which match some represent the family as acquiring Goring lordship; but it has been shown that the Tregozes held property there nearly a century before. Sir Henry was, however, also lord of Wykenholle, co. Sussex; and in importance almost exceeded his great deceased kinsman John Baron Tregoze; for during the reigns of Edward I, and Edward II. 1294 and 1322, Sir Henry Tregoze, having acquired much renown in the Scotch wars, was summoned to Parliament as a Baron.
In 1296, 24tb Edw. I. he was enrolled, pursmacnt to an ordinance for the defence of the sea-coast of Sussex, as a knight holding lands within the rape of Arundel, but not resident in the county; and, in 1297, he was among those returned from Sussex and Surrey, as holding lands or rents of 20?. yearly, and as such summoned to perform military service in parts beyond the seas. In 29 Edw. I. he obtained licence from the King to hold a market and fair at Goring; in 1301 we find him styled " Dominus de Garynnges; " and in 33rd Edw. I, he had a grant or free warren in Wykenholt, co. Sussex.
In 1307 be was a Conservator of Peace in Surrey, and in the following year (1308) in Sussex; in which last year also he was summoned to attend King Edward II's Coronation. In 1309 and in 1313, " Henry Tregoze " (sed qu. he or his younger son ?) was summoned to Parliament as Knight of the Shire for Sussex as well as by special writ. By the said Margaret de Goring he had issue. [The Topographer and Genealogist, Volume II, 1853]

=== HENRY DE TREGOZ, brother and heir [of Jo ===
HENRY DE TREGOZ, brother and heir [of John, d. 1197], was mentioned in connection with Goring in 1201, was a knight in Sussex in 1206, a juryman for a forest perambulation in Sussex in 1225 and a Commissioner of oyer and terminer in that county in 1226. He was involved in numerous lawsuits, some with his brother Thomas, between 1202 and 1226. He died possibly between 1243 and 1256 (c). [Complete Peerage XII/2:23-4, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
(c) There seem to be at least 3 men called Henry de Tregoz, associated with Goring in the 13th century. The suggested date-limits of 1243 and 1256 are based on (1) an estimate of his possible age, which would allow him to be the Henry who held 6 knights' fees in 1243, and (2) the fact that in 1256 a Henry de Tregoz was granted respite of knighthood, whereas Henry abovenamed had long been a knight.
Note: I believe that the Henry who d. in 1256/7 above was the one who died without issue, according to Dave Utzinger. Therefore this Henry probably died aft 1243.

Henry Tregoze held lands in Goring, in Sussex, 3rd John (1202), as appears, by the Rot. Oblat.; and that be was then also living is confirmed by the Rot. Canc. In 4th John (1202-3), William Mordant acknowledged that be ought to render to Henry Tregoze the free tenement in Goring, in Sussex; and in 1219, 3rd Hen. Ill., we find the said Henry Tregoze giving the King half a mark to have a writ against Emma fitz Ralph, and Rose and Avice her sisters, concerning tenements in Goring; this Henry had issue, it would appear, two sons (Henry who died without issue aft 1257, and John).
