Most held by his son Ralph FitzBernard (1245-1306) As Ralph FitzBernard was only 15 when he inherited Kingsdown, an inquistion was held. Kingsdown Manor was described as 266 acres arable, 32 acres pasture and 67 acres woodland. Other land farmed by tenants. B. Part of Manor held by Alan the Clerk in 1242 Kingsdown Manor was originally a whole ‘knight’s fee’, but by 1242, parts had been sold off. One-sixth of a fee was centred on a house or farmstead where the Hever Avenue recreation ground and Hotchkiss’ factory now stand. Its lands included most of the Hever estate up to Church Road, excluding Southfields Road. In 1242 this was held by Alan the Clerk from Alexander de Easthalle, who held it from James de Hever, who held it from heirs of Ralph FitzBernard, who held it from the King. The estate later became known as the Manor of Hever, with a house called Hever Place. This is the only proven connection with the de Hever family. The Hever estate farmed by de Chimbham family for 100+ years This family were based at Chimbhams Farm (now Kingsdown Farm) an Anglo-Saxon name. C. Part of Manor held by de Chepstead family in 1242 This included Billet Farm, Cages Wood, Gallows Wood, Little Rogers Wood, Gellians and all of Crowhurst Farm held until fifteenth century. ^Alterations to the church < Hever Shield National Events Plantagenet, surname, originally nickname, of the English royal house of Anjou or the Angevin dynasty, founded by Geoffrey IV, count of Anjou (1113-51), husband of Matilda (1102-67), daughter of King Henry I of England. The name is in reference to the sprig that Geoffrey always wore in his cap.
