  !The Genealogist NS 942.B2gqm V 16 pp 204-206 Knowsley property was in the Lathom family several generations before Katherine Knowsley, heiress of Knowsley married Sir Robert Lathum who died 1325. The property was given to the brother of Robert's 2nd gg father, possibly from his mother's line. Since there seems to be only one generation between Katherine and Adam Knowsley, then we have placed Thomas or Robert as Adam's son. Adam may have had a son Adam who married Godith. They were plaintiffs in a case against Wystanley 2 Jun 1252. Lancashire & Cheshire Reocrds: "Katherine, wife of Sir Robert de Lathum..is said...to have been dau. and heir of Thomas de Knowsley. So far as the pedigree of the Knowsley family can be deduced there appear to be some grounds of substituting Robert for Thomas, as the name of Katherine's parent. The Knowsleys...appear to have been a very early offshoot from the parent stock of Lathum." Also, "It is impossible to say who Godith might be...but the nature of her claim points to some relationship with the family of Billings...Her husband evidently belonged to a family who held an estate in Knowsley, under the Lathoms."
