=== Life Sketch ===
Sir Knight
The name is said to derive from the oak tree, "DIM" meaning, fort or home.....DIMOAK or DYMOAK
The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Nicholas de Dimmoch, which was dated 1169, in the "Pipe Rolls of Gloucestershire", during the reign of King Henry II, known as "The Builder of Churches", 1154 - 1189.
Dymock is mentioned in the Domesday Book and at that time there were 68 males living in the village.
Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
