William Samlesbury, living in 1246, was the grandson of Gospatric. He married Avina de (Notton?), and they had three daughters. Avina appears to have been a window in 1257, so William must have died sometime prior.
Of his three daughter, one had no children. Elizabeth, married Sir Robert de Holland, from whom are descended the Holands, the earls of Kent and Hungtingdon, the dukes of Surrey and Exeter. Half of the Samlesbury estate went to the Holands. Cecily, the other daughter married Sir John d'Ewyas who died sometime before 1311, while she was still alive. By this marriage, Sir John acquired the other moiety of the Samlesbury estate.
