=== Life Sketch ===
Robert de Ros was the son and heir of his father Robert de Ros (d. 1227) and Isabel, daughter of William the Lion, King of Scotland. He m. Margaret, sister and coheir of Peter de Brus II (died 1272). Robert died shortly before 20 April 1274. May 16, 1275 the escheator had order to allow Margaret seisin again of her inheritance, on taking the usual oath not to marry without the King's licence. She died short before 30 January 1306/7 when her Inquisition post mortem was taken at Westmorland.
Robert and Margaret had children:
1. William de Ros I b ca 1247 and died before 1269. Unmarried?
2. Ida de Ros b ca 1250 who married Roger Bertram II
3. Isabel de Ros b ca 1254 who married Roger de Merlay
4. Robert born about 1256 and died shortly after his father in 1274 and after taking livery of Wark. He married Christiana Bertram, daughter of Rogert Bertram I. They had one son, also Robert who married and had two daughters who were the heirs of their grandmother, Margaret.
5. William de Ross II of Presson and Kendal b ca 1258 and d before 9 March 1310 when his IPM was taken. William married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) and they had three children: Thomas, heir, Robert and William. William is the ancestor of Catherine Parr last wife of Henry VIII through his son Thomas.
=== Notes and sources for Robert... ===
Sir ROBERT DE ROS of Wark on Tweed, Northumberland, younger son of Robert DE ROS of Helmsley (died circa 1226), was probably the Robert, son of Robert de Ros, who, in February 1206/7, was a hostage in custody of the Earl of Oxford. In April 1230 he was going overseas in the King's expedition into France. In 1234 he was appointed a justice of the Bench, and went on circuit in Lincs, Yorks and Northumberland. Chief justice of the Forests North of Trent, November 1236. He was in attendance on the King at York, when Alexander II of Scotland disclaimed Northumberland, Cumberland and Westmorland, in consideration of a money payment and a grant of lands in England, 25 September I237. He was sum. before the Council in London, June 1242. In May 1244 he was summoned against the Scots. After the marriage of King Alexander III to Princess Margaret, 26 December 1251, Robert de Ros and John de Balliol were sent with her to Scotland as guardians. In 1255 Margaret complained of their proceedings. Robert was summoned to England, his lands were seized, and a fine of 100,000 marks imposed.
He (Robert de Ros) married, (? 2ndly), Christine, daughter of . . . BERTRAM, and sister and in her issue coheir of Roger BERTRAM. He was presumably living at Michaelmas 1269, and died probably before November following. His widow married Robert de Penbury; their son Ellis was her heir.
[Complete Peerage XI:119-20, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
Note: CP II:126 states that Christine was married 1st to Mr. Penbury, then to Robert de Ros.
---
The following e-mail from Douglas Richardson indicates that CP is in error in both accounts above, with Christine being married (1) to William de Ros (eldest son of the Robert de Ros cited by CP); (2) Robert Penbury. See further notes under Christine Bertram.

Dear Jim, Ian, and John ~
I re-checked Hedley again today. He cites a Northumberland plea dated 1241 which states that marriages have been pre-arranged and "now have been made" between the eldest sons and heirs of Roger Bertram and Robert de Roos and their respective daughters.
This record proves that it was Robert de Roos' son and heir, William, who married Christine Bertram, not Robert himself. This corrects Complete Peerage under both Bertram and Ros.
This record also proves that Ida, wife of Roger Bertram, the younger, was the daughter of Robert de Roos, of Wark. Ida subsequently married (2nd) Robert de Neville, of Raby, and (3rd) John Fitz Marmaduke. This adds to the information on Ida which is found in Complete Peerage under Bertram and Neville.
This leaves Sir Robert de Roos (died 1269) without a wife. However, inasmuch as he named a daughter, Ida, I think it is a good bet that his wife descends from the Longespee, Bigod, or Tony families, all of which families used the given name, Ida.
