This village was long in the possession of the family of Fairfax, This village hath been long in the possession of the family of Fairfax; and anciently contained three carucates of land, held by the heirs of Roger de Brus, and divers others, who held the same of the Barons of Mowbray, but paid no certain rent. Peter de Brus granted to William Fairfax and his heirs, nine oxgangs, one acre, and three perches of land, with tofts and crofts in Walton, of the fee of Mowbray, by a deed without date. It is now the property of G. L. Fox, Esq. Bramham Park, who is lord of the manor. Relating to the Parish of Walton Yorkshire

  He was the son of Peter II de Brus and Hawise de Lancaster. Peter married Hillaria, daughter of Peter de Maulay, Lord of Mulgrave and Isabella de Thornham and died without male issue on 18 September 1272. His properties were split between his sisters, Agnes, the wife of Walter de Faucunberge, Margaret, the wife of Robert de Ros and Ladereyna, the wife of John de Bellew, and his daughter, Lucy, the wife of Marmaduke de Twenge.[1] Agnes received Skelton, Marske, Upleatham and Kirkleatham. Lucy received Yarm, Danby and Brotton. Margaret received half the barony of Kendall. Ladereyna received Carlton and Kentmere.
