=== Life Sketch ===
“Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013):
“ROBERT MAUDUIT, of Hanslope, Buckinghamshire, Barrowden, Morcott, and South Luffenham, Rutland, hereditary Chamberlain of the Exchequer, son and heir.
He married ISABEL BASSET, daughter and co-heiress of Thurstan Basset, of Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, Letcombe Bassett, Berkshire, Hawridge and Marsworth, Buckinghamshire, etc.
They had two sons,
1. William, Knt., and
2. possibly Thomas.
In 1195-1200 the abbot and convent of Westminster granted him certain houses in Longditch, Westminster. In 1195-8 William Postard, abbot of Westminster, licensed him to have a chapel in his house near Longditch, Westminster. In 1208 he reached agreement with Hugh Fitz Hugh and others regarding three bovates of land in Luffenham, Rutland. He and his son, William, both took arms against King John and forfeited their lands. In 1217 both returned to fealty to Henry III, and their lands were restored. His wife, Isabel, acquired two messuages from John Testard, and 7s. 8d. in quitrents from John son of Edward the reeve, in order to grant them to maintain the lights on the altar of St Mary in Westminster Abbey. In 1220 he sued Waleran, on of Waleran Earl of Warwick, for a debt of 200 marks; Waleran pledged the manor of Weston, Gloucestershire to him.
ROBERT MAUDUIT died shortly before 22 June 1222.
His widow, Isabel, presented to the church of South Luffenham, Rutland sometime before 1225. On 24 October 1225 Thomas de Venuz made fine with the king by 10 marks for having Isabel, widow of Robert Mauduit, as his wife if she consents to it.
She died shortly before 11 Dec. 1225.

ROBERT [II] Mauduit, son of WILLIAM [III] Mauduit & his wife Isabelle de Senlis (-[1217/Jun 1222]). "Robertus de Ousbravill filius Fulconis" granted "civitatem meam de Ousbravill", except land which "mea mater tenet in doario", to "Willelmo Mauduit camerario domini regis Anglie, cognato meo et Roberto filio suo" by charter dated to [Nov 1183/Nov 1184][1105]. The Red Book of the Exchequer, listing scutage payments in [1196/97], records "Robertus Malduit" paying "xxv s, i militem et tres partes" in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire[1106]. Philippe II King of France granted “la terre que Jean et Robert Mauduit avaient possédée à Saint-Martin” to “Baudouin de Lihus” by charter dated [22 Apr 1207/5 Apr 1208][1107]. The Testa de Nevill lists knights who held land in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, dated to [1208/10]: "Robertus Mauduit camerarius" held "Hamslap…"[1108]. The Red Book of the Exchequer records "Robertus Maudut" holding land "Berewedone per camerarium" in Rutland in [1210/12][1109]. Henry III King of England granted letters of conduct to "Willelmus Maudut" to "comitem W. Marescallum, ad loquendem cum eo de deliberacione R. patris sui" dated [early] 1217[1110]. Henry III King of England granted "honorem de Hamslape…que fuerunt Roberti Mauduit […camerarii]" to "Henrico de Brayboef" dated to [Mar] 1217[1111].
m as her first husband, ISABELLA Basset, daughter of THURSTAN Basset & his wife --- (-[24 Oct/11 Dec] 1225). "Isabella who was the wife of Robert Mauduit, who is one of the heirs of Thurstan Basset…" made a fine "for having her rightful portion…of lands formerly of Thurstan her father" in the honour of Wallingford, dated 8 Jan 1223[1112]. She may have married secondly (after 24 Oct 1225) Thomas de Venuz. "Thomas de Venuz" made a fine for marrying "Isabella, who was the wife of Robert Mauduit…if she will consent to this", dated 24 Oct 1225[1113].
