----------------------------------------------------------
FitzGerold married Matilda de Chesney, the heiress of William de Chesney, whose parentage remains unknown. They had two sons, Warin and Henry. The elder fitzGerold died in 1174–1175, and was survived by Matilda and his sons. He was buried at Reading Abbey. Besides grants to Reading, he had also given gifts to Southwark Priory and to the cathedral chapter of Rochester Cathedral.
FitzGerold's eldest son Warin inherited the majority of his father's estates. Warin married Alice de Courcy. Warin's daughter Margaret married Baldwin de Redvers and their son was Baldwin de Redvers, the 6th Earl of Devon. The younger Henry married Ermentrude Talbot and became prominent in the service of William Marshall, the 1st Earl of Pembroke.

Concern with Regard to Matlida's Father
"j) [--- de Chesney. Matilda was presumably the daughter of one of the Chesney brothers.... No information has been found which enables us to identify her father. It should be noted, as commented below, that William [I] de Chesney cannot be excluded as her father. m ---.]
One child:
"i) MATILDA de Chesney (-before 1198). Henry FitzGerold donated land in Sawbridgeworth, Herts to Reading abbey, naming "M. de Caisne uxori mee", by undated charter. Domesday Descendants says that she was heiress of William Chesney of Oxfordshire. H. E. Salter cites a charter which he says confirms that Matilda could not have been the daughter of William [I] de Chesney: "Henry de Dive dominus de Dadintone", in his capacity of “heir of William de Chesney quondam dominus de Dadington”, claimed the manor of Marston St Lawrence “which had belonged to his ancestor” from the canons at Lincoln by charter dated 1273. Henry de Dive was presumably descended from Lucy de Chesney, daughter of Ralph de Chesney (son of Hugh de Chesney, brother of William [I] de Chesney, see above), and her husband Guy de Dive. Salter comments that, if Matilda had been the daughter of William [I], her descendants and not those of Lucy de Chesney would have been his heirs. However, this comment assumes that William de Chesney who is named in Henry de Dive’s charter was William [I]: an alternative possibility is that he was William [II]. "Mathildis de Chaisnei" donated her part in "molendini de Clifton" to Eynsham abbey by charter dated to [1173/89]. "Mathildis de Cheisnei" donated "unam hidam terre in uilla de Haiforde", previously held by “Hamelinus frater Petri de Chaisnei”, to Eynsham abbey by charter dated to [1173/89]. The Rotuli de Dominabus of 1185 lists “Matillis de Kaineto”, with “ii filios; primogenitus est xviii annorum, alter xii” and “terra sua in Kameltone...vii libris annuatim”. m (before 1167) HENRY FitzGerold, son of ROBERT FitzGerold & his wife Alice --- (-[1174/75])."
Daughter of Hugh de Chesney (de Chesney) and Dionisia (de Bereford) de Chesney
Wife of Henry (1140-1175) FitzGerold
Mother of Henry FitzGerald and Warin FitzGerold
Warin Fitz Gerold, King's Chamberlain, of Heyford Warren (in Upper Heyford), Oxfordshire, son and heir of Henry Fitz Gerold, by Maud de Chesney, was born about 1167 (aged 18 in 1185). He married before 1194 (as her 2nd husband) Alice de Courcy, daughter of William de Courcey (or Curcy) of Strogursey, Somerset and his second wife, Gundred de Warenne, widow of Peter de Valoines, daughter of Reynold de Warrene by Alice de Wormegay. Warin's wife Alice was the widow of Henry de Cornhill (also known as Henry Fitz Gervase). Warin and Alice had one daughter, Margaret (wife of Baldwin de Rivers [or Reviers] and Fawkes de Breauté). Warin died in 1216.
Henry FitzGerold donated land in Sawbridgeworth, Herts to Reading abbey, naming "M. de Caisne uxori mee", by undated charter.
