===== Manor of Egginton =====:"The manor of Egginton (Eghintune), which had belonged to Tochi in the reign of Edward the Confessor, is stated in the Survey of Domesday to have been held, at the time of the survey, by Azelin, under Geoffry Alselin. This manor, or a moiety of it, was held under the Bardolfs (fn. n43), descendants of the above-mentioned Geoffry, by [[FitzRandolph-149|Ralph Fitz-Germund]], whose son William Fitz-Ralph, Seneschall ofNormandy, and founder of Dale-Abbey, gave it to [[De_Grendon-2|William de Grendon]], his nephew, in exchange for Stanley, near Dale-Abbey, which he had first given him. [[Unknown-219323|Ermitrude Talbot]] gaveto [[Fitzrobert-105|Robert]], son of [[Fitzwalkelyn-2|Robert Fitz-Walkelin]], in free marriage with [[De_Grendon-1|Margaret]] her daughter, all her lands in Egginton which she had of the gift of [[De_Grendon-2|William de Grendon]], her husband, [[Ferrers-284|Margaret]], elder daughter and coheir of this Robert married [[Chandos-6|Sir John Chandos]]; upon the death of whose descendant, Sir John Chandos, the celebrated warrior, in 1370, a moiety of the manor of Egginton passed to his niece Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Lawton, and wife of Sir Peter De la Pole, who was one of the Knights of the Shire in 1400. This moiety is now the property of Edward Sacheverell Chandos Pole, Esq., of Radborne. [[Fitzwalkelyn-1|Ermitrude]], the other coheiress of Fitz-Walkelin, married [[Stafford-224|Sir William de Stafford]], whose son Robert left five daughters coheiresses; in consequence of which this moiety became divided into several shares." :"The descent of the quarter share conveyed as dower to [[De_Grendon-3|Serlo de Grendon]] when he married [[FitzRalph-39|Margaret]] daughterof [[FitzRandolph-149|Ralph fitz Geremund]] must now be considered. On the death of [[De_Grendon-3|Serlo]] early in the 13th century his son [[De_Grendon-2|William]], who was married to [[Unknown-219323|Ermentrude]] widow of Quintin Talbot, inherited the estate. He died in June 1203 leaving as sole heiress [[De_Grendon-1|a daughter]] married to [[Fitzrobert-105|Robert fitz Walchllin]] of Egginton. On his death in orbefore 1232 the jury found that [[Fitzrobert-105|Robert]] had died seized of half of the vill of Egginton, rendering to Hanselin 20s., and also one quarter of the vill by service in right of [[De_Grendon-1|hiswife]]." == Notes ==:"The date of [[FitzRandolph-149|William f. Ralph]]'s death is uncertain, but it cannot have been long after the foundation of tbe abbey. His nephew [[De_Grendon-2|William de Grendon]], who became the advocatusor patron of the abbey, and whose name appears in several deeds datedbetween 1190 and 1203, died before Michaelmas in the latter year, when his wife [[Unknown-219323|Ermentrude Talbot]] married her third husband [[FitzGerold-24|Henry f. Gould]]. In addition to Depedale, he granted the abbey his lands in Ockbrook, together with his body and that of Bertram his brother, who became a canon of Dale in company with William de Hagnaby, formerly one of the Depedale canons." :"[[FitzGerold-24|Henry fitz Gerold]], son of [[FitzGerold-19|Henry fitz Gerold]], chamberlain of King Henry II., younger brother of [[FitzGerold-13|Warin fitz Gerold]] (II), also chamberlain. Born 1173. Married (c. 1203): [[Unknown-219323|Ermentrude]], widow of (1) [[Talbot-2637|Quentin Talbot]] of Gainsborough, Lincs.; widow of (2) [[De_Grendon-2|William of Grendon]]. Exacutor of William Marshall. Died c. 1231." [William Marshal, p 238 [https://books.google.ca/books?id=iVOpCwAAQBAJ&pg=PT238&lpg=PT238&dq]]
:"[[Talbot-381|Hugh Talbot]] was holding Wing in the 12th century, andbefore 1198 it was held by his descendant [[Talbot-2637|Quintin]], who was living in 1209. (fn. 35) [[FitzGerold-24|Henry Fitz Gerald]] washolding in 1218 (fn. 36) and the [[Unknown-219323|Lady Ermentrude]] in 1234 (fn. 37) and 1235. (fn. 38) William Talbot had succeeded before1239 (fn. 39) and was holding in 1247. (fn. 40)" ["Parishes: Wing," in A History of the County of Buckingham: Volume 3, ed. :"There was a suit in the reign of John and another in 1248 between the abbot of St. Nicholas and the Talbots with reference to feudal customs: [[Talbot-2637|Quintin Talbot]] first and William Talbot after him demanding provision for thirty-two reapers and other rights, includingtwo candles apiece for all their servants on Candlemas Day; they alsoclaimed the right to hold their courts in the abbot's hall at Wing asoften as they pleased. (fn. 3)" ["Alien houses: The priory of Wing," in A History of the County of Buckingham: Volume 1, ed. William Page (London: Victoria County History, 1905), 396. If Quintin and [[Talbot-122|Robert]] are the same person, and [[Unknown-219323|Ermentrude]] is the mother of all the children:
At least 4 Talbot children would take about 7 years. 1 Grendon child would take about 1. At least 3 FitGerald child would take about 5.
Robert/Quintin is living in 1209.
William de Grendon dies in 1203.Henry Fitz Gerald holds the same Wing property as Talbot, in 1218, anddies c. 1231.
This would suggest that de Grendon is actually the first husband, thenTalbot the second, and Fitz Gerald the third.
If she were say born abt. 1185, married to Grendon from abt. 1200-1203. (aged 15-18), married to Talbot from abt. 1204-1211 (aged 19-26), and married to FitzGerlad from abt. 1212-1231 (aged 27-46 ... 27 is still plenty young enough to have 3 more children ... she could even be born abt. 1180 and still have time to fit it all in, if she first married at 20ish).
There is, however, an issue with the Robert = Quintin proposal. Robertappears to still be living in 1225/6, which would make even an 1185 Ermentrude 40 years old, and likely not able to have 3 more children with a 3rd husband. His children are also being born starting in the 1190s, which would require an even older Ermentrude. So, are there 2 Ermentrudes, marrying 2 different Talbots?
