  “BALDWIN FITZ GILBERT, of Bourne, Barholme, East Deeping, Helpringham, Hykeham, Morton by Bourne, and Skellingthorpe, Stow next Barhohne, and West Deeping, Lincolnshire, Eastwick, Hertfordshire, Sproxton, Leicestershire, Thrapston, Watford, and Welford, Northamptonshire, Alsthorpe (in Burley), Rutland, etc., younger son. He married about 1130 ALINE (or ADELINE) DE ROLLOS, daughter and heiress of Richard de Robs, of Bourne and Deeping, Lincolnshire. They had one son, Roger, and three daughters, Emma, Rohese (or Rose), and Margaret. About 1129 the king confirmed to the monks of Envermeu what Baldwin had given them of the lands of Hugh de Envermeu. In 1130 he answered for £301 16s. 4d. "for the land of William de Rullos, with the daughter of Richard his brother." From 1130 he was a fairly frequent witness to royal charters. In 1136 he led a large force into Wales to avenge his brother's death. He consented to a gift of his mother, Alice, to Thorney Abbey dated c.1136-38. He founded Bourne Abbey, Lincolnshire in 1138. In 1139, or shortly thereafter, he founded a small cell of Thorney Abbey at Deeping, Lincolnshire. He addressed the troops on behalf of King Stephen at the Battle of Lincoln in 1141, he being "a man of the highest rank and a brave soldier." He and his nephew, Gilbert, Earl of Hertford, witnessed a charter for King Stephen in 1142. At an unknown date, he and his wife, Adeline, granted Hartshohne (in Skellingthorpe), Lincolnshire with the advowson of the church to Bardney Abbey. He was gave rights in the fen at Morton, Lincolnshire to Vaudey Abbey, Lincolnshire and land in Normandy to the monasteries of Bec and Holy Trinity, Caen. BALDWIN FITZ GILBERT was living c.1154. His widow, Aline, was living c.1160-65.
