=== Life Sketch ===
Havoise de Guingamp is of unknown parentage, though various scholars have speculated. An example is Morin, Stéphane (2010). Trégor, Goëlo, Penthièvre. Le pouvoir des Comtes de Bretagne du XIIe au XIIIe siècle (in French). Presses Universitaires de Rennes, who identified her father as Theobald III, Count of Blois based on very slim evidence.

Hawise was living in 1135, when, as "comitissa Hadewisa" she witnessed her husband's charter for St. Edmunds. In the first edition of the present work it is stated that she was Countess of Guingamp and that Stephen became Count of Guingamp in her right. For this there seems to be insufficient foundation: Guingamp in the diocese of Treguier would be a part of the lands of Count Eudon.
