=== Life Sketch ===
THURSTAN III DE MONTFORT, of Beaudesert, Charlecote, Wellesbourne, and Whitchurch, Warwickshire, Remenham, Berkshire, Ridlington and Uppingham, Rutland, etc., was the son and heir of Henry de Montfort, of Beaudesert, Charlecote, and Edstone (in Wootton Wawen), Warwickshire, Uppingham, Rutland, etc.
He married ___ DE CANTELOWE, and had two sons:
1. Peter, Knt.
2. William
Thurstan III de Montfort was a minor when he succeeded his father in or before 1199. In 1205 the king took his homage and gave him his land on condition that he demise it for two years to William de Cantelowe.
Sometime after 1205 he gave the nunnery of Pinley the tenth part of all the victuals spent in his house, including bread, beer, flesh, fish, and whatsoever was dressed in his kitchen. In 1206 he was abroad in the king's service. In 1206 the Prior of St. Neots, Huntingdonshire sued him for the manor and advowson of the church of Wing, Rutland, which had been previously granted to his church by Thurston the grandfather and Robert his uncle.
In 1209 he demanded a moiety of the town of Langton, Yorkshire against Eustace de Vescy as his right and inheritance. In 1210 he was serving the king in Ireland. He was excused the scutage of Poitou in 1214, because he fought himself.
He appears to have joined the rebellion of King John, and in March 1215/16 he had letters of safe conduct on coming to the king.
THURSTAN DE MONTFORT died shortly before July 9, 1216, when his lands and heir were committed to the custody of William de Cantelowe. In 1220 William de Cantelowe presented to the church of Ridlington, Rutland by reason of the custody of the said land and heir.
