  Did William le Belward marry Beatrix of Chester?
  The 1580 Visitation says William married Beatrix daughter of Hugh II, Earl of Chester. Cotgreave has observed that if a marriage had taken place with the daughter of such a notable, a record of it would likely have been created. The 1613 Visitation says William married Beatrix, daughter of Einion ap David.
  
  Collins also makes William's wife Beatrix a daughter of Earl Hugh Kevelioc: "He left issue by her, William le Belward, Baron of Malpas, who married Beatrix, daughter of Hugh Kevelioc, fifth Earl of Chester, and sister and co-heir of Earl Ranulph. [19]
  
  Croston states that he married "Tanglust, a natural daughter of Hugh Kevelioc, Palatine Earl of Chester, or according to some authorities, Beatrix, daughter of Randle, Earl of Chester."[28]
  
  From Burke's A General and Heraldic Dictionary of the Peerage and Baronetage of the British Empire, "William le Belward, baron of Malpas, who m. Beatrix, illegitimate daughter of Hugh (Kevelioc,) Earl of Chester."

DAV1D, eldest son beforenamed, was styled Dan David; and from being clerk, or secretary, to the earl of Chester, sometimes was written Le Clerk, and sometimes de Malpas, where he succeeded his father, and was sheriff of Cheshire, 36th Henry III. of which county he was also justice, and held three knights fees in the said king's reign. He Loan married Margaret," daughter and heir to Ralph ap-Enyon, a person of Peerage. great note, by his wife Beatrix, sister to the aforesaid Hugh earl of Chester, and thereby is said to have become possessed of the entire barony of Malpas; viz. the one half by descent, and the other in right of his wife, by whom he had four sons; viz.
  
  David Le Clerk, baron of Malpas in Cheshire, who died in 1293, is said to have been the son of John, son of William, a younger brother of a count de St. Pierre, who came over to England in the reign of Richard I, between 1189 and 1199;
