    Note: Alice de Gaunt was the daughter of Walter de Gaunt, 2nd Baron of Folkingham (1080-1138) and Mahaut de Bretagne (1092-1135). She married Roger de Mowbray, 4th Baron of Thirsk, 2nd Baron of Mowbray (1127-1188) and had 2 children by that marriage. ∼ Soon after his release, Roger married Alice de Gaunt (d. c. 1181), daughter of Walter de Gant and widow of Ilbert de Lacy, and by whom he had two sons, Nigel and Robert. ------------------------------------------ Alice de Gaunt was the daughter of Walter de Gaunt, 2nd Baron of Folkingham (1080-1138) and Mahaut de Bretagne (1092-1135). She married Roger de Mowbray, 4th Baron of Thirsk, 2nd Baron of Mowbray (1127-1188) and had 2 children by that marriage.

    Note: ALICE de Gand . “Avicia de Romelli” notified her donation to the canons of Drax, for the soul of “Willelmi Paganelli mariti mei”, with the consent of “domini Roberti de Gant et Adelicie filie mee uxoris eiusdem Roberti”, by charter dated to [1147/52], witnessed by “Robertus de Gant et Adelicia Paganella uxor eius et Adelicia soror Roberti de Gant…”[992]. “Aliz de Gant” donated property to Pontefract Priory, for the souls of “prioris domini mei Ilberti de Lascy” and with the consent of “Henricus de Lascy”, by undated charter[993]. Her second marriage is confirmed by the undated charter under which “Rogerus de Molbrai” confirmed the donation of property to Pontefract Priory by “uxor mea…pro anima prioris domini sui Ilberti de Lasci”, witnessed by “Willielmus Peverel…Turgis de Molbray…”[994]. It is dated by an undated charter under which Roger de Mowbray and his wife Alice (Ilbert’s widow) donated property to the abbey of St. Mary, Hood, witnessed by William “decanus” who was consecrated bishop of Durham 20 Jun 1143, thus providing the latest date for the document[995]. “Alicia de Gaunt uxor Rogeri de Mubray” donated property to Fountains Abbey by charter dated 13 Apr 1176 which names “filiorum meorum Nigelli et Roberti”[996]. m firstly ILBERT de Lacy, son of ROBERT de Lacy & his wife Matilda --- (-[Feb 1141/May 1143], bur [Pontefract Priory]). m secondly ([Feb 1141/20 Jun 1143]) ROGER de Mowbray, son of NELE d'Aubigny & his second wife Gundred de Gournay (-[late 1187/1188]).

He married before 1120 MAUD OF BRITTANY, daughter of Stephen (or Etienne), Count of Brittany, lord of Richmond, by his wife, Hawise [see RICHMOND 4 for her ancestry]. Her maritagm include the manor of Swaledale, Yorkshire. They had six sons, Gilbert [Earl of Lincoln], Robert, Philip, Baldwin [Canon of Bridlington], Geoffrey, and possibly Walter [Canon of Oseney, Abbot of Waltham], and three daughters, Alice, Agnes, and (wife of William Fitz Walter). He founded Bridlington Priory, Yorkshire in 1113 or 1114. He confirmed his father's gift to Bardney Abbey, Lincolnshire in 1115. He was a member of the council of King Henry I in 1121 or 1122 and Sept. 1131. He was present at the Easter court of King Stephen in 1136. He was a commander at the Battle of the Standard in 1138. WALTER DE GANT died as a monk at Bardney Abbey, Yorkshire in 1139. Children of Walter de Gant, by Maud of Brittany: ... iv. AGNES DE GANT, married (1st) WILLIAM DE MOHUN, of Dunster, Somerset, son and heir of William de Mohun, of Dunster, Somerset, by his wife, Alice. He was an adult before 1131. They had six sons, Ralph, William, Henry, Iwan, Peter, and Richard. Her maritagium included the manor of Whichford, Warwickshire. He and his wife, Agnes, gave the advowson of the church of Whichford, Warwickshire to Bridlington Priory, which was founded by Agnes' father, Walter de Gant. William was created Earl of Somerset in 1141. This honour did not continue in the family. WILLIAM DE MOHUN was living in 1142. His widow, Agnes, married (2nd) before 1145 RICHARD LE SCROPE, of Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire. They had one son, Robert (of Flotmanby and Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire). Child of Agnes de Gant, by William de Mohun: a. WILLIAM DE MOHUN, of Dunster, Somerset, married GODEHILDE DE TONY [see MOHUN 5].”
