=== Life Sketch ===
Robert le Bigot, certainly a relation of Roger's, possibly his father, acquired an important position in the household of William, Duke of Normandy (later William I of England), due, the story goes, to his disclosure to the duke of a plot by the duke's cousin William Werlenc.
Both Roger and Robert may have fought at the Battle of Hastings, and afterwards they were rewarded with a substantial estate in East Anglia.

------------------------------------------------------------------
The first person who, bearing the name of Bigod or Bigot, appears in history is Robert le Bigod, a poor knight, who gained the favour of William, duke of Normandy, by discovering to him the intended treachery of William, count of Mortain. This Robert may have been the father of Roger, and one or the other, or both, may have been present at the battle of Hastings. In the ‘Roman de Rou,’ iii. 8571-82, the ancestor of Hugh Bigod (perhaps the above Robert) is named as holding lands at Malitot, Loges, and Chanon in Normandy, and as serving the duke in his household as one of his seneschals. He was small of body, but brave and bold, and assaulted the English gallantly.

=== Poor Knights were Templars ===
Sir Bigod was a Knight of Philip I of West Francia, he and the De Vaux de Vallibus(The worth of the valley) brothers were descended from Rollo’s Danish warriors. Their ancestors were baptized and named by Charles III. They were ordained as catholic priests by St Bernard de Clairvaux and took the Popes Oath of Poverty. Together, they were some of the first Templars. None of these men had financial problems, as they had gifted their wealth to the church. They fought at Hastings with William the Bastard on orders from the Vatican and were the knights who killed Harold Godwinson. Immediately after securing the British crown, the Templars initiated the First Crusade and reclaimed Jerusalem. The Bigods and the De Vaux De Vallibus families were also instrumental in the formation of the Jesuits.

Source: Norr; Kraentzler 1595. Norr on page 25 says Richard le Goz apparently was the son of Robert,who was the son of Thurston. This works out well re 25 years per generation. On page 89 he says Richard was the son of Thurston. Kraentzler in lines 1309 and 1383 leaves out this generation. Russellalso leaves out this generation. Things further complicated because both Robert and Thurstan had sonsnamed Richard. I think!! It looks like Robert Bigod (K-1595), Chamberlain of William, Duke of Normandy, is the same as Robert le Goz. Fathers are, respectively,Thurstan (Todeni?), Goz, and Thurston de Goz, both of Heismes and Avranches. And Robert le Goz (de Bigod) had a son Robert (de Wigot) de Bigot,carrying on the Bigod/Bigot/Wigot name.

Roger Bigod (died 1107) was a Norman knight who travelled to England in the Norman Conquest. After Ralph de Gael's fall in 1074, Roger was appointed sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, and acquired many of the dispossessed earl's estates. For this reason he is sometimes counted as Earl of Norfolk, but he probably was never actually created earl. (His son Hugh acquired the title earl of Norfolk in 1141.) He died on 9 September 1107 and is buried in Norwich. For some time he was thought to have two wives, Adelaide/Adeliza and Alice/Adeliza de Tosny. It is now believed these were the same woman, Adeliza (Alice) de Tosny (Toeni, Toeny). He was succeeded by his eldest son, William Bigod, and, after William drowned in the sinking of the White Ship, by his second son, Hugh Bigod, 1st Earl of Norfolk. He also had three daughters: Gunnor, who married Robert fitz Swein of Essex, Lord of Rayleigh; Cecily, who married William d'Aubigny "Brito"; and Maud, who married William d'Aubigny "Pincerna",
