=== Life Sketch ===
Newmarch Pedigree:
RALPH DE NEWMARCH (we drop the Latinized as well as the Norman-French name) son of Bernard, probably came to England with his father A.D. 1066, though he must have been quite a young man at that time. He seems to have settled at Bentley~cum~Arksey in Yorkshire, and to have been the companion of Roger de Busli, founder of the Honour of Tickhill in that county, of which Honour Ralph and his descendants held four knight's fees in Arksey. We find him to have been one of the witnesses to Roger de Busli's Charter, or grant of lands, to the Priory of Blythe in Tickhill, Temp. 2 W. 2, A.D. 1088. Among his possessions in the county of York were Bentley-cum Arksey, near Doncaster, where he had his mansion, Bolton, Wymersley, and Barnby-up on-Don, to the rectory of which the Newmarches presented from the earliest period to which the records of the see of York extend down to thereign of Edward III. The arms preserved in the chancel window of Barnby Church serve to identify the family. Hunter's South Yorkshire; Stonekouse's Isle of Axholme, 374; Reg. Dioc. Ebor
Early Yorkshire Families:
The earliest member of the family holding land in Yorkshire was Ralph Novi Fori who witnessed the foundation of Blyth priory by Roger de Busli in 1088 , and was presumably a tenant of the fee later known as the honour of Tickhill, of which his descendants held 4 knights' fees. Although he probably came from Normandy his place of origin has not been determined; there is no known connection with Bernard de Neufmarche, lord of Brecknock, who came from Neufmarche, dept. Seine-Maritime, arr. Neufchatel, cant. Gournay.
Complete Peerage:
In 1088 witnessed the foundation of the priory of Blyth, Notts by Roger de Bully. From the holdings of his heirs Ralph may be presumed to have been a tenant of Roger de Bully.
