Biography
Maud/Matilda d'Avranches
Matilda was the daughter of Robert d'Avranches. C[arta]. Rob't son of King Henry by grant of Mathilde, daughter of Robert de Avrenchis and heir of Richard son of Baldwin, giving the whole vineyard which Rob't son Baldwin and Richard his brother Eccl.
Matillis de Averenches or Averenges was married to:
1st-William de Curcy, or Geoffrey de Crunes, with whom she had:
1.) Hawise, who had:
a.)Robert de Curtenay;
2nd-Robert fitz Roy, in the time of Henry II, with whom she had:
1.) Matillis de Curtenay, who at Devon, on Michaelmas, in 6-7 Henry III, sued Robert de Curtenay, the son of her half-sister
2.) Hawise, who had been called to warranty by Reginald de Curtenay, for the manor of Chamelegh, and at Hillary in 6 Henry III, sued Robert de Courtenay for Ocumpton (Okehampton), Saundford, and four other manors, and Reginald de Courtenay for the manor of Chauneley;
Matilda died on 21 September 1173.
Research Notes
The monastic history of Ford Abbey presents the theory that Robert D'Avranches was not Matilda's father but her first husband. Contemporary evidences, some of which are cited above, clearly disproves this theory.

She married William de Crucy.2
She married Robert fitz Edith, Baron of Okenhampton, son of Henry I 'Beauclerc', King of England and Edith Sigulfson.1
She died on 21 September 1173.
She was also known as Maud d'Avranches.2
She gained the title of Dame du Sap. After her marriage, Matilda d'Avranches, Dame du Sap was styled as Baroness of Okenhampton.

Illegitimate children of King Henry I of England, by his mistress, Edith, daughter of Forne son of Sigulf, lord of Greystoke, Cumberland. Edith subsequently married ROBERT D'OILLY, of Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, Constable of Oxford Castle. They had two sons, Henry and Gilbert. He and his wife, Edith, founded Oseney Priory near Oxford in 1129. Robert d'Oilly died in Sept. 1142. Sometime in the period, c.1145-56, his widow, Edith, granted a toft in Huggate and 68-1/2 acres in the fields there to the poor of the Hospital of St. Peter, York. i. ROBERT FITZ ROY. He held land in Devonshire in 1130. He witnessed a charter of his step-father, Robert d'Oilly, in the period, ?1130-35. He supported his half-sister, Empress Maud, in the Civil War. In the period, 1144-7, he witnessed a charter of his half-brother, Henry d'Oilly. In 1146-7 he witnessed a charter of Empress Maud and her son, Henry. About 1150 he granted 10 pounds of land in his manor of Wantage, Berkshire to the church of Oseney, with the counsel of Henry d'Oilly his half-brother. Sometime in the period, 1153-67, he witnessed a charter of Wigan of Wallingford. He married before 1162 MAUD D'AVRANCHES, widow of William de Courcy (or ?Geoffrey de Crimes?), and daughter of Robert d'Avranches, by ___, daughter of Gelduin de Dol. They had one daughter, Maud. His wife, Maud, was heiress of Richard Fitz Baldwin. In 1162 he granted St. Nicholas Priory, Exeter two ferlings of land in his manor of Calvalegie juxta Cobbalegiam, together with a man named Edwium son of Wranhi; charter was granted with with the consent of his wife, Maud d'Avranches. Plus Maud de Abrincis is named "Maud D'Avranches" . Plus Hawise is dau of de Coucy - not Deincourt. (not e - Plantagenet ancestry also has Deincourt. I have Hawis e Deincourt as Reginald, the father's 1st wife.). I am goi ng with the newest Burke (1999).
