=== Life Sketch ===
«b»Biography«/b»
By her Christian name, "Adeliza," she is identified as Flemish (Adelise is the Norman French equivalent); she had the same name as a contemporary, "Adeliza de Louvain," Queen of England (1103-1151 CE), wife of King Henry I. The correct spelling of her Flemish surname has been lost for "De Cnichtel" or "Van Cnichtel" are surely mis-spellings. But they are the best we have until the correct spelling is found.
At about age 21, she married William de Bailol, second son of Lord Rainald de Bailol or Bailleul, Sheriff of Shropshire and allied to the powerful Earl Roger de Montgomery of Shropshire. When William inherited the manor of Knightley in Staffordshire (from his mother, Earl Roger's niece), the family adopted "De Knightley" as their surname and moved there.
It is said she lived a long life, dying in the 1170s, at close to 100 years old; she is no doubt buried at Knightley or Stafford but no exact burial information is available.
