=== Life Sketch ===
Henry de Ferrers (died by 1100), magnate and administrator, was a Norman who after the 1066 Norman conquest was awarded extensive lands in England.
He was the eldest son of Walkelin de Ferrers and in about 1040 inherited his father's lands centred on the village of Ferrières-Saint-Hilaire.
With his wife Bertha he had four known children:
1. William, probably the eldest, who inherited the estates in Normandy and was a supporter of Duke Robert Curthose.
2. Enguenulph, keeper of Duffield Castle, who did not long outlive his father.
3. Robert, who inherited the estates in England and was made Earl of Derby.
4. Amice, who married Nigel d'Aubigny of Cainhoe.

INGENULF [Guillaume] de Ferrers, son of HENRI de Ferrières & his wife Berta --- (-after 14 Sep 1101). “Henricus de Ferrariis” founded a church “apud castellum meum Tuttesbury”, for the souls of “…uxoris mee Berte et filiorum meorum Engenulphi W, Roberti ac filiarum mearum…”[432]. "…Guillaume de Ferrières…" witnessed the undated charter under which Robert III Duke of Normandy donated property to Saint-Etienne de Caen[433]. "…Engennulfi de Ferr…" subscribed a charter dated 14 Sep 1101 under which Henry I King of England donated property to Bath St Peter[434].
m ---. The name of Ingenulf's wife is not known.
Ingenulf & his wife had one child:
1. [HENRY de Ferrers (-after 1136). The primary source which confirms his parentage has not yet been identified. Domesday Descendants comments that he was "probably son of Ingenulf…since [he] is frequently remembered in the Ferrers confirmations for Tutbury"[435], implying that no proof of his parentage exists. The corresponding charters have not been identified in the selection of Tutbury charters included in Dugdale’s Monasticon[436]. The Complete Peerage cites a manuscript transcript of the Tutbury cartulary but this has not been consulted[437]. The 1130 Pipe Roll records "Henr de Ferrar" in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire[438]. He held land at Lechlade, Gloucestershire and Oakham, Rutland[439].] m ---. The name of Henry's wife is not known. Henry & his wife had one child

=== Engenulph de Ferrers, to whom his father ===
Engenulph de Ferrers, to whom his father gave the castle of Duffield in Derbyshire, and William de Ferrers, who is said to have accompanied Robert, Duke of Normandy, to the Holy Land, are generally said to have been the seniors of their brother Robert, and to have died without issue during their father's lifetime. But Engenulph was witness to a charter granted to the priory at Bath by Henry I on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, September 14, 1100. He was in all probability therefore, a younger son who survived his father, as was his brother, William. One of these two brothers was the father of Henry de Ferrers.
