Biset, Willelm
William was associated in England and Normandy with Stephen count of Aumale, lord of Holderness and successor of Drogo de Beuvrière. He occurs as a benefactor of the abbey of Selincourt, diocese of Amiens, with his men Ingeran de Belnay and Renold de Gislebert-Mesnil. The family also held land near Aumale at Ellecourt from, or by grant of, the counts of Aumale. His family, wife Hawisa, their four sons, Manasser, William the Carpenter, Henry and Ansold, and their descendants occur as benefactors of Thurgarton priory in Nottinghamshire. His first appearance was in the Pipe Roll of 31 Henry I for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. His son Manasser became prominent after 1154 as a favourite of Henry II. He was perhaps William son of Henry Visa or Bisa and his wife Bertha, who gave a moiety of the church of Fresnes to Tréport, with the assent of Countess Adelaide (Aelidis) and her son Stephen.
