=== Lulach's short reign (1057-58) was almos ===
Lulach's short reign (1057-58) was almost entirely filled with conflict against Malcolm Canmore. The nickname the fool was probably established by chroniclers who believed he acted unwisely in his campaign against Malcolm, making foolish decisions that lost him his life, and lost Scotland its Gaelic inheritance.

=== Lulach or Lulaigh, son of Gruoch by her ===
Lulach or Lulaigh, son of Gruoch by her first husband. The annalists style him Lulach the Simple or the Fatuous. His career, however, was very brief, as he was slain 'by stratagem,' it is said, at Essie in Strathbogie, on 17 March 1057-58, and his rival, Molcom, became King of the Scots. Publication: Name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loarn_mac_Eirc;
Note: Cenél Loairn
The descendants of Loarn, the Cenél Loairn, controlled parts of northern Argyll around the Firth of Lorne, most probably centred in Lorne but perhaps including the islands of Mull and Colonsay, Morvern and Ardnamurchan. The boundary to the east was the Druim Alban mountain ridge that separated Dál Riata from Pictland. The chief places of the kingdom appears to have been at Dun Ollaigh, near Oban and Dunadd near Crinan.[2] The chief religious site may have been on Lismore, later the seat of the High Medieval bishop of Argyll.
Descendants of Loarn
Several kings of Dál Riata were members of the Cenél Loairn, and thus claimed descent from Loarn :
Ferchar Fota
Ainbcellach mac Ferchair
Selbach mac Ferchair
Dúngal mac Selbaig
Muiredach mac Ainbcellaig
In High Medieval times the Mormaers of Moray claimed descent from Loarn:[3]
Findláech mac Ruaidrí
Máel Coluim mac Máil Brigti
Gille Coemgáin mac Máil Brigti
Mac Bethad mac Findláich (also king of Alba)
Lulach mac Gille Coemgáin (also king of Alba)
Máel Snechtai mac Lulaich
Óengus

Lulach mac Gille Coemgáin (Modern Gaelic: Lughlagh mac Gille Chomghain,[1] known in English simply as Lulach, and nicknamed Tairbith, "the Unfortunate"[2] and Fatuus, "the Simple-minded" or "the Foolish";[3] before 1033 – 17 March 1058) was King of Scots between 15 August 1057 and 17 March 1058.
Lulach was the son of Gruoch of Scotland, from her first marriage to Gille Coemgáin, Mormaer of Moray, and thus the stepson of Macbeth (Mac Bethad mac Findlaích). Following the death of Macbeth at the Battle of Lumphanan on 15 August 1057, the king's followers placed Lulach on the throne. He has the distinction of being the first king of Scotland of whom there are coronation details available: he was crowned, probably on 8 September 1057 at Scone. Lulach appears to have been a weak king, as his nicknames suggest, and ruled only for a few months before being assassinated and usurped by Malcolm III.
Lulach's son Máel Snechtai was Mormaer of Moray, while Óengus of Moray was the son of Lulach's daughter."
