Note: This is a translation (automatic) errors may occur by translation and interpretation. Jean I er Dol , († 1092 ), is lord of Combourg to 1065 then Archbishop of Dol from 1087 to 1092 . Origin Jean de Dol is the son of Riwallon de Dol and his wife Aremburge du Puiset, daughter of Gelduin Viscount of Chartres . Lord and Archbishop Jean I er Dol became lord of Combourg after the death of his father to 1065 . Juhel or Juthaël the archbishop of Dol who had bought his seat around 1040 to Duke Alain III of Brittany before getting married publicly after his episcopal ordination is condemned by Pope Gregory VII in 1076 and must leave his seat. He retired on Norman territory to the abbey of Mont - Saint - Michel where from his troops he plundered the countryside of Dol. To replace the clergy and Dole elect Gilduin the younger brother of Jean I er Dol and send the Pope to be spent. It is finally Éven († 1081) abbotof Saint-Melaine de Rennes since 1058 who is preferred to him and who becomes archbishop. Juhel uses Guillaume I er of Normandy and the Pope must first send three legates in 1078 and Hugh of Die to confirm the appointment of Even. It is at this time that John I st founded a priory says Abbaye-sous-Dol with his brothers William and Gilduin, canon of Dol under the patronage of Geoffroy Grenonat the Count of Rennes . Jean de Dol, widowed, becomes a monk between 1079 and 1083at the abbey Saint - Florent de Saumur whose elder brother Guillaume, is the abbot between 1070 to 1118 . The lordship then passes into the hands of his eldest son Riwallon II . Geoffroy I er Boterel Count Penthièvre had the ambition to relax his domains beyond the Rance and take control of the north-east of Brittany that is to say the region of Dinan and Dol-de-Bretagne . In the 1080s , with the complicity of his ally Viscount Hamon III Aleth, whose estates extend on the left bank of the river he managed to seize the archiepiscopal cityof Dol-de-Bretagne . After the death Hamon III († about 1084) he must retire. It is at this time that Jean I er Dol whose brother Gilduin († 1078) elected in 1075 / 1076 had declined the seat of Archbishop of Dol , is chosen in turn dignity achiépiscopale as successor to Even . To obtain his consecration he undertakes the journey to Rome where he dies onJune 27, 1092.
