Fled to Granada (1040), an independent Sultanate in Spain. Here he found refuge with Rabbi Yosef Ha-Naggid, whose ancestors had lived in Spain for several generations. He stayed with him until he was murdered at Granada (1066). Yosef then went north into Christian Spain, then on to France and Italy, and finally to the Middle East, and resided at Fustat (Cairo, Egypt).
