  Owain ap Maredud is the youngest son Maredudd ap Tewdwr . He succeeds his brother Rhain ap Maredudd as king of Dyfed. No details are known of his brief reign on the Dyfed. At this time the region is assaulted by Viking raids and Owain is killed in an obscure fight. His successor is his nephew Triffyn ap Rhain . Around 850 a pretender Hyfaidd ap Bleddri claims the throne as the son of a daughter of Owain
