[1] This would make him 50 years old at the birth of his son Iorwerth Foel. Marriage to Catrin ferch Gruffudd Boyer, following Bartrum, states that Iorwerth Fychan married Catrin ferch Gruffudd ap Llywelyn ap Iorwerth. [1] The Visitation of Shropshire states that Jerworth Vaughan ap Jerwerth hen married Katherina filia Gruff ap Ll'n Ly'n ap Jerwerth Prince. Walliae. [4] Lloyd states that Iorwerth Fychan married the Princess Catherine, relict of Maredudd, Lord of Rhiwabon, second son of Madog ab Gruffudd Maelor, Prince of Powys Fadog, and daughter of Gruffudd ab llywelyn ab Iorwerth Drwyn Dwn, Prince of Wales, and sister of Llywelyn ab Gruffudd, the last sovereign Prince of Wales, who was slain near Buallt, in 1282. [3] Lloyd states that Iorwerth Fychan, lord of Chirk, Nanheudwy, Maelor Isaf, married Catherine, daughter of Gruffydd ab llewelyn ab Iorwerth, Prince of Wales, and relict of Marfedydd of rhiwfabon, second son of madog ab Gruffydd Maelor, Prince of Powys Fadog. [5] Catrin's brith year has been estimated as 1217, and the marriage year as 1234 when she was 17, and Iorwerth, born 1200 would have been 1234. These estimated dates fit the marriage customs of the time. Other sources, however, differ on Catrin or Catherin's ancestry: Burke states that Iorwerth Vychan married Catherine, dau of Llewelyn ap Griffith, Prince of North Wales, [2] Howard states that Iorwerth Vychan married Kathrin, daughter of Iorwerth ap Ririd ap Iorwerth ap Madoc ap Ednowen Bendeu.
