Little is known of this early 7th century King. The son and heir of King Pedr ap Cyngar ap Vortepor, he was, no doubt, named after the great King Arthur of myth and legend. His grave is probably the Bedd Arthur, an oval of twelve standing stones in the Preseli Hills, just east of Garn Bica.

Named after the great King Arthur
=== He was a contemporary of Arthwyr of Gwen ===
He was a contemporary of Arthwyr of Gwent and it is possible (though unlikely) that the two were one and the same. If this were so 'King Arthur' would have extended his kingdom to cover all of South Wales and displaced the dynasty of Eochaid. Arthwyr of Dyfed was a tyrannical ruler and it is memories of him that created the darker side of the legendary Arthur.
